Defensive Shotgun is a 10 hour course that introduces the student to the fighting shotgun. This is an intense course that will focus on the tactical deployment of the shotgun at close quarter distances. This is not a beginner’s class and the student will be expected to be proficient in the basic operation of their weapons.
The course will cover the following:
Proper Stance
The standard response
Multiple targets and tactical order of engagement
Select slug drills
Sling and carry considerations
Tactical and speed reloads
Transitions to sidearm
Malfunction clearance
Pivots and turns
Lateral, forward, and rearward movement
Situational awareness and conflict avoidance
The student will need the following:
Shotgun with sling and ammunition carrying system
300 rounds Birdshot, 25 rounds slug, and 25 rounds buckshot minimum
Heavy Duty Handgun, 100 bounds of ammunition
Two magazines or speed loaders (minimum)
Strong side holster and magazine / speed loader pouch for handgun
Hearing and wrap around eye protection
Hat, sunscreen, and full coverage shirts and shoes (no tank tops, low cut shirts, sandals or flip flops)
Knee and elbow pads are optional
Rain gear for inclement weather
Either a semi-automatic or pump shotgun is acceptable. 12 or 20 gauge, with a 20″ barrel or shooter is recommended.
